In section 10, the Lord is explaining to Joseph what had happened to the lost manuscript, and showing him what to do about the missing part of the Nephites’ story.

Without the 116 pages, we would start the Book of Mormon in the book of Mosiah, with no way of knowing who these people were and how they got to Zarahemla.

The Lord describes some of Satan’s tactics, but reassures Joseph that He knew about the wicked plot to steal the manuscript hundreds of years earlier, inspiring both Nephi and Mormon to include additional records.

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland explained that the Lord knew what was ahead and gave us “more than we lost”:

“So clearly this was not a quid pro quo in the development of the final Book of Mormon product. It was not tit for tat, this for that—116 pages of manuscript for 142 pages of printed text. Not so. We got back more than we lost. And it was known from the beginning that it would be so. We do not know exactly what we have missed in the lost 116 pages, but we do know that what we received on the small plates was the personal declarations of three great witnesses (Nephi, Jacob, Isaiah), three of the great doctrinal voices of the Book of Mormon, testifying that Jesus is the Christ.”

Isn’t it reassuring that the Lord can take even our mistakes and weaknesses and make them strengths when we turn to Him?

3 things I’m excited to teach and share with my children this week in D&C 10-11:

1️⃣ The Lord can take something and make it even better.

Doctrine and Covenants 10 teaches us how the Lord prepared a way for the lost stories from the manuscript to still be included in the Book of Mormon, with even more than what was originally lost.

Use this lesson to help your family understand that we can exercise full faith in Christ and know that His ways are not our ways.

2️⃣ The Lord reveals some of Satan's tactics.

Section 10 also teaches about Satan and what he tries to do. As you read this section with your family, go through it carefully and see everything that Lord points out. What is it that he emphasizes? And what is it that he reveals? There are few places in scripture where we can just learn some of the deceptions that Satan uses.

3️⃣ The Lord’s message to Hyrum.

D&C 11 is the teaching Hyrum that it's time for him to prepare. This section precedes everything Hyrum will soon accomplish- and Hyrum didn’t know all that he would do yet.

✨ STUDY TIP ✨

As you read what the Lord is saying to His disciples, notice what He might also say to you. He often repeats the same messages because these are things He'd have His disciples do. So as you're going through these verses, ask yourself and highlight, what might He also say to me?

You may even choose a color that represents personal messages to you.
