1 Corinthians 13 Journal Notes | The Red Headed Hostess

1 Corinthians 13 is one of my favorite chapters in the scriptures.

Beginning to comprehend “Charity” has been a turning point in my life.

I don’t know how to express it better than that.  It isn’t a small thing. This doctrine is worth a lifetime of serious study and reflection.

Here are my personal journal notes for 1 Corinthians 13-14….  Its just a skimming of the surface, but that is a good place to start.

  15. Loved reading your notes – thank you! Here’s one of my favorite quotes and it happens to be about charity: Elder Marvin J. Ashton: “Real charity is not something you give away; it is something that you acquire and make a part of yourself. And when the virtue of charity becomes implanted in your heart, you are never the same again. … Perhaps the greatest charity comes when we are kind to each other, when we don’t judge or categorize someone else, when we simply give each other the benefit of the doubt or remain quiet. Charity is accepting someone’s differences, weaknesses, and shortcomings; having patience with someone who has let us down; or resisting the impulse to become offended when someone doesn’t handle something the way we might have hoped. Charity is refusing to take advantage of another’s weakness and being willing to forgive someone who has hurt us. Charity is expecting the best of each other” (“The Tongue Can Be a Sharp Sword,” Ensign, May 1992, 19).

  18. I love your blog. I had been struggling to rekindle the desire to really study my scriptures. I came across your blog by accident, and I fell in love with the idea of a scripture journal.   23. I am the YW Camp Director and we have been assigned the “value” of charity (we have more wards than there are YW values so the stake leaders added some “values”). Combine this with the YW Theme, Arise and Shine Forth, and I have some heavy things to ponder. I too have read these passages with new eyes and very much appreciate your thoughts. I like how you have listed each phrase and verse. This was Especially helpful to me as I try to organize my thoughts and distill them into something that the girls can grasp.

  24. My husband and I are converts to the church, and this whole bit of scripture was quoted verbatim at our wedding…so it means a lot to us. Now that I have this guide to help me study, I suspect 1Corinthians 13 will have even deeper significance in my life. Thank you for all that you do!
