Death By Chocolate Cake- The Red Headed Hostess
If you want to make a cake that is memorable,
If you want to make a cake that causes audible gasps from people,
If you like swatting people’s hands away,
If you want your husband to feel extra loved on his birthday,
Then this is a must-make cake.
It is seriously chocolate-y. I mean this will send you into a chocolate coma. It is rich and moist and must be served with icecream to help with the chocolate overdose. And you will only want to serve thin slices, so this cake can easil serve 18 people.
Those layers you see are 5 layers of cake then frosting then mousse. It all comes together and creates a whole new chocolate dimension.
Here is what you need
1- 1 Seriously Good Chocolate Cake Recipe (below)
2- 1 box of chocolate mousse mix (prepared and chilled)
3- 1 Seriously Good Chocolate frosting recipe (below)
4- Chocolate Curls

Chocolate Curls
1- Too a double boiler, add 1 1/2 cups of chocolate chips

7- Take a metal spatula and turn it upside down, and while pressing down onto the cookie sheet, run it along in lines taking up ribbons of chocolate as you go
Pile in the center of your cake.
And threaten anyone who tries to steal them. Which will be everyone.

This cake was SO good when we had it at your place, that I can guarantee that I will NEVER make it….well as long as I am on a diet, that is. So, do you HAVE to dust the cake pans with cocoa powder, or is it alright to just use flour? (Not that I will ever make it, I just am curious)
My sister just made this cake for my mom’s birthday and when she told me she was going to stray from our traditional chocolate cake recipe, I was a little nervous…let’s just say that we will never make our old recipe again! This cake was to die for good! She did have one question about the baking soda – is it really suppose to be a tablespoon? I think she used a teaspoon and it was great but for future, it would be good to know for sure. 🙂
Is it 1 T spoon of baking soda or is that a miss print? I can tell I have the same tastes as your husband from your comments. I can’t wait to try both your sandwich recipes and the ribs, oh la, la.
Thank you for sharing your recipes and a bit of your life mixed in. It’s a joy to read.
I asked my question under the wrong post… Woops! So… About the mousse mix… Did you use Jello’s brand?
Yes I just use a mousse mix from the store. It is usually found on the baking aisle or by the jello. 🙂
I made this for Levi’s birthday today. You continue to enrich (emphasis on rich) our lives!
I made this cake for my husband last month and it was just wonderful! The whole family loved it! Thanks for a decadent recipe! It is a keeper!
